International Conference on Disabilities in Africa

The theme of the ICDA 2021 conference is: “Empowering for a better quality of life”. Discussions and conference submissions would focus on how disabled people can be empowered to become more visible and actively included in their respective communities in Africa. We also welcome presentations on any topic related to empowerment and disabilities (i.e., intellectual disability, vision Impairment, autism spectrum disorder, deaf or hard of hearing, mental health conditions, physical disability etc). Some of the topics that will be explored on the day aim to give you a better understanding about ID, exploring various models and perspectives and various types of ID; challenges faced by disabled people in Africa and wider context. This workshop will be delivered by our faculty director and some of our ISDS consultants via face-to-face interactive sessions and with group tasks and discussions. You will also have an opportunity to become part of ISDS research teams organised according to the following research themes: Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD); Special Educational Needs (SEN); Mental Health Conditions (MHS); Stigma and Social Inclusion (SSI); Social Policy and Inclusive Development (SPID); Spirituality and Quality of Life (SQL); Care Management and Leadership (CML).
